The Robert W. Coleman community is located between Frederick Douglass High School and North Avenue. The neighborhood is home to a variety of green spaces and educational facilities. In the center of the neighborhood lies The Quiet Place, a restorative green spaces where neighbors can relax. Near the southern end of the neighborhood is Herbert Street Park, a recently developed green space that will soon include various outdoor recreational facilities for residents. Robert W. Coleman is also surrounded by some of Baltimore’s most famous educational institutions. To the north you will find Robert W. Coleman Elementary and Frederick Douglass High School, while the William S. Baer School, Coppin Academy, and Coppin State University are located to the West.
North Avenue, which forms the southern boundary of the neighborhood, is home to many businesses that help the community thrive. Just below Herbert Street Park lies the E.M.A.G.E Center, which includes a small shopping center, restaurant, and business incubator where youth learn entrepreneurial skills. At the southeastern tip of the neighborhood is Carey Hardware, a beloved West Baltimore institution that provides essential tools and materials for homeowners and stewards of neighborhood green spaces.
